A Russian passenger jet, the Sukhoi Superjet 100, crashed on Friday while flying without passengers, resulting in the deaths of its three crew members, according to officials.

The aircraft, operated by Gazprom Avia, a subsidiary of the state-controlled natural gas company Gazprom, crashed in the Moscow region. The jet had taken off from an avionics plant in Lukhovitsy, 110 kilometers southeast of Moscow, after undergoing maintenance and was en route to Vnukovo Airport.

Russia's Investigative Committee has launched a probe into the incident. This crash comes after a similar Sukhoi Superjet accident in May 2019 at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport that resulted in 41 fatalities.
