Redhill Cancer Hospital, operating under RVL Healthcare Ltd, has joined forces with Siemens Healthineers to revolutionize cancer care across Eastern Africa. The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the US-Kenya Business Forum in Washington, D.C., aims to establish an integrated Cancer Center and Research Park in Nairobi, Kenya. This initiative responds to the alarming rise in cancer cases, with Kenya alone reporting 45,000 new diagnoses and nearly 30,000 cancer-related deaths annually (Global Cancer Observatory 2022).

Dr. Leela Prasad Pamidimukkala, Founder and CEO of RVL Healthcare Ltd., expressed the vision behind this collaboration: "Our goal is to create Africa’s most comprehensive Cancer Center and Research Park, focusing on delivering high-quality diagnostic services, advanced cancer treatments, and groundbreaking research. Our mission is to offer affordable cancer care not only to Kenya but to the wider African region. With Siemens Healthineers as our partner, we are committed to reshaping Africa’s oncology landscape by leveraging modern technologies and innovative solutions."

The collaboration encompasses advisory services for facility construction, alongside the provision of state-of-the-art diagnostic, imaging, and treatment equipment along the entire oncology pathway. Siemens Healthineers will support the hospital’s long-term growth strategy with capacity building programs, including physical training and AI-based services, aimed at addressing healthcare professional shortages in Africa.

Vivek Kanade, Managing Director of Siemens Healthineers, Middle East & Africa, highlighted the significance of this initiative: "Together with Redhill Cancer Hospital, we aspire to create a world without the fear of cancer. We are honored to collaborate on this monumental project with RVL Healthcare, which we believe will bring hope to millions of patients and their families. By establishing this unique Cancer Center and Research Park, we aim to make essential cancer care more accessible, aligning with our mission to enhance healthcare affordability and accessibility globally."

The facility, scheduled to commence construction in August 2024, anticipates conducting up to 200,000 cancer screenings and 4,000 surgeries annually upon its completion by late 2025. This development aims to reduce the need for patients to seek treatment abroad, thereby bolstering the local economy and healthcare infrastructure.

The Research Park, integral to the hospital, will collaborate with educational institutions and pharmaceutical companies to advance cutting-edge oncological research and provide comprehensive training for healthcare professionals.

This partnership between Redhill Cancer Hospital and Siemens Healthineers represents a transformative step towards improving cancer care access and quality across Eastern Africa, marking a significant advancement in regional healthcare capabilities.
