The Delhi Metro's fourth phase expansion project has achieved significant progress, with more than 50% of work completed on all three priority corridors, according to the DMRC. Set to operationalize by 2026, the new 65-kilometer network aims to enhance urban connectivity.

Initiated in December 2019, the project faced considerable setbacks between 2020 and 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and delays in obtaining tree-cutting permissions. However, with consistent efforts over the past two years, the DMRC has made substantial headway.

Anuj Dayal, DMRC's principal executive director of corporate communications, noted that civil work on the Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor is about 80% complete. Additionally, the Aerocity-Tughlakabad (Golden Line) and Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg (Magenta Line) corridors are undergoing significant tunneling work.

Despite facing challenges, the section from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension is nearing completion and is expected to open by August. The entire Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor is anticipated to be operational next year, with remaining sections opening in phases by 2026.

Nevertheless, the project still awaits various permissions, including tree cutting and land acquisition, which are being actively pursued at appropriate levels. The expansion is closely monitored, with site visits to expedite progress. Two additional corridors -- Inderlok-Indraprastha and Saket G Block-Lajpat Nagar -- have also received recent approvals, and planning and tendering for civil works are underway.
