Professor Neil Quigley has been reappointed as Chair of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) Board for an additional two-year term, extending his leadership until 30 June 2026.

"Professor Quigley has played a key role in establishing the new Board following the commencement of the new RBNZ Act on 1 July 2022, and I am pleased he is continuing in the role," said Nicola Willis.

Willis highlighted that Quigley’s reappointment ensures the Board retains his extensive leadership and expertise in central banking and monetary policy, positioning the Board well for the induction of new members.

There are currently two vacancies on the Board that will be filled once suitable candidates are identified. Additionally, there will be opportunities to consider a broader refresh of the Board as two terms are set to conclude in June 2025.

Professor Quigley is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waikato and has previously served as a director of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. His past roles include Professor of Economics, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), and Provost at Victoria University of Wellington, as well as Professor of Economics at the University of Western Ontario, Canada.
