INPC records over 200 classified monuments and sites in Angola
- Country:
- Angola
The National Institute of Cultural Heritage (INPC) has put at 278 the number of monuments and sites classified all over the country.
The data were released on Wednesday (17) in Luanda by the director of institution, Cecília Gourgel. This number results from a list of 1.3 million monuments and sites catalogued in the country.
Speaking to Angop, ahead of the International Monuments and Sites Day, the official regretted, however, that some of them are in degradation, despite the efforts by Executive to restore them.
Cecília Gourgel said that the rehabilitation of the monuments, once they are old buildings, is costly taking into account the required maintenance of the architectural lines, to save their initial characteristic features.
The International Monuments and Sites Day was established in 1982 by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMS).
