Salman Khan Discusses Bollywood's South Indian Disparity
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan highlights the challenges Bollywood faces in attracting South Indian audiences, explaining the lack of footfalls for Hindi films in the region. Despite having a presence in the South, Bollywood films don't draw crowds like South Indian cinema does in the Hindi belt.
Bollywood heavyweight Salman Khan has addressed the challenges faced by Hindi films in capturing audiences in South India, despite their films gaining traction in the Hindi-speaking regions. During a media interaction, Khan acknowledged the dichotomy, noting the limited theatrical success of Bollywood releases in the southern states, attributed to the deeply rooted fan following of local stars.
Khan shared insights from his experience, suggesting that the industry's current approach toward filmmaking needs a revamp. He emphasized the necessity of compelling scripts and warned against making films for opportunistic reasons, like actor availability. According to him, emotional depth and strong storylines are crucial for future success. Recent Bollywood releases, according to Khan, suffered due to an overemphasis on expensive projects lacking audience-connected content.
The actor also highlighted the challenges posed by increasing ticket prices and shrinking viewer attention spans, while expressing optimism for upcoming projects, like his film 'Sikandar' with A R Murugadoss. Scheduled for a March 30 release, 'Sikandar' aims to appeal broadly with its universal themes.
