Voter Roll Tampering Allegations Surface Ahead of Maharashtra Polls
The Shiv Sena (UBT) has accused the BJP of attempting to tamper with voter rolls in Maharashtra ahead of the November assembly elections. Alleged inclusion of bogus names across 150 constituencies suggests a fear of defeat by the BJP. The Election Commission's role and impartiality are also questioned.
As Maharashtra gears up for its assembly polls, allegations have surfaced accusing the BJP of attempting to manipulate voter rolls. The Shiv Sena (UBT) claims that bogus names are being included in lists across 150 assembly constituencies targeted by the ruling party.
An editorial in 'Saamana,' the Sena (UBT)'s mouthpiece, argues that the so-called tampering is a tactic reflecting the BJP's apprehension about losing the election. With polling scheduled for November 20, the opposition coalition Maha Vikas Aghadi, including the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and NCP (SP), is challenging these alleged practices aggressively.
The Election Commission's response has also been highlighted, as it maintains a standard procedure was followed during voter list revisions. However, doubts persist about the impartiality of the Commission, especially after a request to transfer Maharashtra's police chief was denied, prompting criticism from opposition leaders.
