Pune Rural police seized Rs 5 crore in unaccounted cash on Monday as the state enforced its model code of conduct for the upcoming elections. The significant find occurred at a checkpoint near Khed-Shivapur plaza on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway.

The police intercepted a car traveling towards Satara during their routine check and discovered the cash with the vehicle's four occupants. Efforts are underway to verify the cash and to investigate its source, according to Pune Rural police and district election officials.

In a related development, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut alleged on social media that a car belonging to an MLA from the Chief Minister's Shiv Sena faction was involved in a larger Rs 15 crore cash seizure.
