FIFA WORLD CUP 2018: France vs Argentina, Messi sinks as Mbappe kicks Argentina out of world cup
The scoreline read 4-3, Kylian Mbappe struck twice for France, as Argentina failed it to take it to extra time.
Argentina took on France in the opening knock out of the world cup. The match finished with the scoreline of 4-3, as Argentina was shown the exit door by France.
France looked to attack from the first minute of the match. Early in the match, Antionne Griezmann had the chance to give France their opening goal with a free kick, but the powerful kick was hit by off the post.
A few minutes later, Mbappe showed his speed and single-handedly almost scored for France, as he took on four defenders and was finally knocked down by Marcos Rojo. The referee immediately pointed towards the spot for penalty and Griezmann scored for France to make it 0-1.
Argentina was on the backfoot and again Mbappe was knocked down, this time by Nicolas Tagliafico. Pogba had a chance to score for a second for France with a free kick just six yards out of the box.
Pogba went for it but fired up to the third tier. The 41st minute saw Di Maria scoring an equalizer for Argentina, an ambitious effort from 30 yards outside. The strike was jaw dropping as it hit the top corner of the net and raised hopes for Argentina with 1-1 at halftime.
The second half had Benjamin Pavard taking down Angel Di Maria and Ever Banega for Argentina fired up the free kick inside the box and Messi curled the ball towards the far corner and it deflected off Gabriel Mercado’s right foot, as the ball went inside the net to make it 2-1 for Argentina.
Minutes later, Pavard made the scoreline even with a stunning strike. The ball was delivered inside the box and the right back lined it up and took a shot from outside the box and deposited in the top corner to make it all square. 2-2.
Kylian Mbappe made it 3-2 for France. Paul Pogba’s amazing cross found Mbappe, as he ran passed Federico Fazio to deposit it in the back of the net, leaving Argentina devastated.
It was Kylian Mbappe who scored his second goal of the night and the scoreline read 4-2. It was a team goal with Umtiti passing the ball to Pogba, who passed it to Griezmann, who passed it Oliver Giroud who delivered it to Mbappe the star striker banged the ball inside the net.
Argentina finally scored in stoppage time, it was trademark Messi passing the ball to Sergio Aguero, who powered it into the net to make it 4-3. Minutes later, Aguero took the final shot for Argentina as the referee blew the whistle and ended Argentina 's quest for survival.

Devastated Messi looked down as celebration began for France.
