Chinese, African scientists collaborate to enhance high-quality crops in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan

China is constantly giving its effort in expanding its reachability in almost all domains in Africa. In the agricultural sector, Chinese firms and entrepreneurs are pushing new, advanced scientific and technological implementations in overall Africa to enhance green development.

Chinese scientists have carried out trial growing of high-quality crops in Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and Sudan, and have selected three hybrid rice varieties suitable for Kenya, according to Wang Qingfeng, head of the Sino-Africa Joint Research Centre (SAJRC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. They have also selected and demonstrated the planting of fine strains of sweet sorghum in Kenya, Ethiopia and other countries, with the output increasing by 30 percent, Wang opined.

With the application of remote sensing information technology, scientists conducted an environmental investigation on water resources in East Africa and constructed a sand control system in West Africa.

On the other hand, the China-developed anti-poaching system has also been introduced to Tanzania and Kenya to raise awareness and protect elephants and rhinos, as reported by Xinhua.
