In a significant move to curb China's technological advancements, the United States has added six subsidiaries of the Inspur Group, a top Chinese cloud computing and data service provider, to its export restriction list. The U.S. Commerce Department stated that these subsidiaries contributed to the development of supercomputers for China's military.

The additions, which include entities from Iran, Pakistan, South Africa, and the UAE, are aimed at limiting China's access to technologies that permit the development of advanced computing capabilities, quantum technologies, and hypersonic weaponry. More than 50 of the nearly 80 entities added on Tuesday are based in China.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick emphasized the U.S.'s commitment to preventing adversaries from using American technology to enhance their military capabilities. This move comes as part of a wider effort to mitigate threats to U.S. national security from countries like China and Iran, especially concerning advanced AI and missile programs.
