Smart Meters Initiative Powers Up with Transparency in Karnataka
BESCOM is installing smart meters in new electrical setups with a transparent pricing system, as announced by Managing Director N Shivashankara. Existing customers can also opt for smart meters. In a move towards modernization, BESCOM is introducing smart meters in new electric setups with a transparent pricing model. According to BESCOM Managing Director N Shivashankara, existing customers will also have the opportunity to upgrade to smart meters.
During a press briefing, attended by Energy Department's Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta and Karnataka Power Corporation Limited Managing Director Pankaj Kumar Pandey, it was revealed that the initiative is part of the Energy Department's broader digital strategy for electricity management.
The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission previously outlined phased smart meter installations. Despite potential financial benefits from the central RDSS scheme, the state has yet to accept it due to subsidy clearance conditions.
