At Aero India 2025, Usha-Urja, a cutting-edge wind energy device engineered by the Indian Air Force, caught attention amid a sea of innovations. Despite its humble appearance, this contraption produces electricity in harsh conditions by harnessing wind energy through a unique, expandable design.
Usha-Urja, priced presently at Rs 5.67 lakh, holds potential for further cost reduction upon mass civilian adaptation, confirmed Group Captain KDA Rajesh. Beyond power generation, the IAF unveiled a dual-use anti-drone system and an invaluable real-time aircraft tracking technology linked to ISRO's NaviC and SatCom network.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army and DRDO displayed their own indigenous solutions, mainly for military sustenance, such as the Shell 155MM HE 107. However, DRDO's high-definition surveillance camera remains primarily for defense use, with no plans for civilian deployment.
