India has emerged as a significant target for cyber attacks, ranking as the second most targeted nation worldwide, according to a report from cyber intelligence firm CloudSEK. The report highlights that 95 Indian entities faced data theft attacks in 2024.
The ThreatLandscape Report 2024 from CloudSEK notes that the United States remains the most targeted country, subjected to 140 attacks, primarily due to its economic prominence and sophisticated digital infrastructure. India has experienced around 95 attacks, emphasizing the vulnerability associated with rapid digital transformation.
The report details that the finance and banking sectors in India are particularly affected, encountering 20 attacks, while government, telecommunications, healthcare, pharma, and education sectors also face significant threats. Notably, major data breaches have resulted in 850 million records being compromised, attributed to entities like Hi-Tek Group and Telecommunications Consultants India. Ransomware groups such as Lockbit and Killsec are among the most active perpetrators.
