Qualcomm Technologies is gearing up to revolutionize the mobile phone ecosystem by supporting enhanced telecom services in the 600 MHz spectrum band, according to Durga Malladi, Senior Vice President at the company. The 600 MHz band, largely untapped globally, has been successfully implemented in the US for extensive nationwide coverage by T-Mobile.

Qualcomm's preparedness is evident; their transceivers are already compatible with the 600 MHz frequency, promising improved building signal reception without additional boosters. Although India initially struggled to attract bidders during the 2022 spectrum auction owing to an undeveloped device ecosystem, the prospects appear brighter as technology advances.

Market leader Qualcomm, commanding a 38% revenue share in the global chipset segment, predicts the integration of 600 MHz support in India will not only enhance telecom services but also boost the devices' market, aligning with the evolving 5G standards. While challenges remain, the opportunities for future 5G IoT applications are significant.
