Sanjeev Sanyal, a prominent figure on the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, addressed the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) during a session at the Bharat Chamber of Commerce. Sanyal highlighted that AI is poised to simultaneously create and eliminate jobs, with its impact largely hinging on how it is embraced by society.
He underscored AI's significant effect on high-skilled sectors, suggesting that traditional job functions could become obsolete. Citing education as a sector ripe for change, Sanyal envisioned a future where AI fosters remote learning, replacing traditional undergraduate pathways with video lectures and chatbots.
Sanyal also discussed the regulatory challenges of AI, pointing out that various regions have adopted differing approaches. While the US favors a hands-off policy, Europe and China lean towards more control. Sanyal advocated for strategic policy measures including human oversight and 'explainability audits' to ensure responsible AI adoption.
