India is on the brink of a data centre revolution, with its capacity expected to reach between 2,000 and 2,100 megawatts by the fiscal year 2027, according to ICRA. The surge is a result of booming digital demand and strides in data localization.

Currently, the nation boasts a capacity of 950 megawatts, with major companies such as NTT Global Data Centers, CtrlS Data Centres, and STT Global Data Centers commanding 85% of the share. Industry experts cite affordable data plans and the proliferation of smartphones as key drivers of this expansion.

Mumbai is at the forefront of this expansion, thanks to its strategic advantages. Furthermore, environmental sustainability is becoming a priority, with data centre operators increasingly investing in green energy solutions to meet future demands.
