The Italian space agency's chief and the industry minister advocate for stronger cooperation within the European Union, aiming to enhance the bloc's competitiveness in the space sector. Speaking at a global space agency meeting in Milan, they highlighted the need for faster decision-making and clearer regulatory frameworks to attract investors.
ASI President Teodoro Valente emphasized the importance of collaboration among EU countries, noting that no single nation can shoulder the financial burden alone. He stressed the necessity of balancing cooperation with competition for efficiency, while Italy's Industry Minister Adolfo Urso called for harmonized EU regulations.
Urso identified space as a critical sector for Europe to focus on amidst global competition, advocating significant investment and attention to the bloc's launcher policy. Challenges include limited space capabilities following the cut ties with Russia post-Ukraine war, with projects like Italy's Vega-C rocket eyeing a return to launch in December.
