Stellantis announced on Monday that it is recalling 194,000 plug-in hybrid electric Jeep SUVs to address fire risks following reports of 13 fires. Owners are advised to park outside and away from other vehicles until the recall repairs are completed.
The recall affects some 2020 through 2024 Jeep Wrangler and 2022 through 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid models. The issue is linked to a battery component, according to the Italian-American automaker.
Stellantis stated that the fires occurred when the vehicles were parked and turned off, estimating that 5% of the affected vehicles may have the defect. The recall includes 154,000 vehicles in the United States, 14,000 in Canada, 700 in Mexico, and nearly 26,000 outside North America. This action was prompted by a routine review of customer data and an ensuing internal investigation.
