Police in Mumbai have demanded a statement from the CEO of the ticketing platform BookMyShow after complaints surfaced regarding the black-market sale of Coldplay concert tickets. The British band is set to perform on the outskirts of Mumbai in January as part of their Asia tour.

Tickets for the initial two concerts sold out within minutes on September 22, leading to widespread frustration among fans. Hours later, tickets appeared on social media at prices nearly ten times their original value, sparking calls for an investigation into BookMyShow. The company stated last week on X that they were not associated with platforms reselling tickets and warned fans about potential fake tickets.

Mumbai Police requested CEO Ashish Hemrajani to appear and provide a statement following a complaint. Reports estimate that 10 million fans were in the queue for only 150,000 tickets. Coldplay added an extra performance, but those tickets also sold out rapidly. Recent concerts in India by artists like Ed Sheeran and upcoming performances by Dua Lipa and Alan Walker indicate the growing popularity of international acts in the country.
