EU Deeply Concerned Over Alleged China-Backed Russian Drone Programme

The European Union has expressed deep concerns regarding reports that Russia, with China's aid, is developing a new attack drone model for the conflict in Ukraine. A new drone, the Garpiya-3, has reportedly been flight-tested in China. If confirmed, this would contradict China's stance on not providing Russia with lethal assistance.

EU Deeply Concerned Over Alleged China-Backed Russian Drone Programme

The European Union has raised alarms over reports that Russia, allegedly with China's assistance, is advancing an attack drone programme aimed at bolstering its efforts in Ukraine. This development, first reported by Reuters, could signify a major geopolitical shift if the accusations hold true.

IEMZ Kupol, a subsidiary of Russia's state-owned arms manufacturer Almaz-Antey, is said to have developed and tested a new drone called Garpiya-3 in China. The EU's spokesperson, Nabila Massrali, articulated the gravity of this situation, emphasizing the potential contradiction to China's official policy of not supplying lethal aid to Russia.

China's Foreign Ministry, however, has stated that they are unaware of such a project and stressed Beijing's stringent export controls on drones. Nabila Massrali emphasized that these claims need immediate and thorough investigation by Chinese authorities. Both IEMZ Kupol and the Russian Ministry of Defence have yet to comment on these reports.
