Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, characterized a potential investment in eyeglasses manufacturer EssilorLuxottica as a 'symbolic' move to solidify their long-term partnership, according to The Verge.

Earlier this month, EssilorLuxottica confirmed an extended partnership with Meta on developing smart eyewear. Zuckerberg highlighted that while the investment isn't significant, it symbolizes their commitment to a lasting alliance. 'I fundamentally believe in them a lot,' he said during a Wednesday video interview with The Verge.

The two companies have collaborated since 2019 on the Ray-Ban-branded smart glasses. 'Sales of the latest version are exceeding expectations,' Zuckerberg noted, adding that demand was underestimated. Meta also showcased its augmented-reality glasses prototype, Orion, during its annual Connect conference.
