SAP Labs India: Pioneering Global AI Innovations

SAP Labs India, the biggest R&D hub for German software maker SAP outside its headquarters, is sharply focused on driving global AI innovations from here. Managing Director Sindhu Gangadharan confirmed plans for opening a new, sprawling campus in Bengaluru are on track.

The company's expansion drive includes constructing a new campus in Bengaluru in three phases, with the first phase involving a capital expenditure of Euro 80 million expected to be completed by Q2 of 2025.

Gangadharan emphasized that AI and generative AI have catalyzed a business transformation, enabling companies to leverage cutting-edge technologies to reimagine customer experiences and processes. She asserted that India, with its talent and skillset, has the potential to lead AI innovations globally.

SAP Labs India is focusing on Custom AI and multi-agent AI technology to drive the next wave of business transformation for its customers.

Gangadharan highlighted that SAP Labs India is the largest R&D hub for SAP outside its headquarters, with 40 percent of the global R&D workforce based in India.

The firm is committed to building innovations for the world, employing 15,600 professionals in India, with 13,600 focused on core R&D. Bengaluru remains the company's largest hub, complemented by offices in Mumbai, Gurgaon, Pune, and Hyderabad.

Recently appointed as the chairperson of apex IT industry body NASSCOM, Gangadharan expressed excitement about India's tech-driven growth, backed by robust numbers and a strong talent pool.

She cited industry estimates projecting AI to have an impact of about USD 3.4 - 4 trillion on the global economy in the coming years, asserting that India has the unique edge to lead in AI innovation.

SAP Labs India's Custom AI and multi-agent AI innovations enhance business operations by enabling sophisticated interactions and decision-making capabilities, driving value and competitive advantage globally.

The new campus, spanning 41.06 acres, will accommodate around 15,000 employees upon completion. The first phase is expected to be ready by Q2 of 2025.
