Telecom Sector Invests Over Rs 4.56 Lakh Crore in Transition to 5G
Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that telecom operators have invested over Rs 4.56 lakh crore in the past two years to transition to 5G. The ministry reports significant drops in voice call and internet data rates while highlighting recent achievements, including the installation of mobile towers and enhancements in service quality.

Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia revealed that telecom operators have invested over Rs 4.56 lakh crore in capital expenditure over the past two financial years to transition from 4G to 5G. The minister highlighted the significant reduction in voice call and internet data rates by 94% and 97% respectively over the last decade.
Speaking about the first 100 days of the third term of the NDA government, Scindia stated that BSNL aims to complete the installation of 1 lakh towers for 4G service by mid-2025. He noted that the ministry will not interfere with BSNL's decisions regarding the rollout of 4G services and their business strategies.
Scindia underscored the increased connectivity and reduced tariffs under the NDA government. Despite a recent tariff hike by private operators, BSNL gained 29.47 lakh subscribers. He emphasized that the telecom sector remains robust with a capital investment of close to Rs 4.26 lakh crore and rapid advancements in 5G infrastructure.
