New research published in Science reveals that AI chatbots can significantly reduce belief in conspiracy theories, according to a study conducted by Thomas Costello and colleagues at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The study involved over 2,000 participants, who engaged in three rounds of conversation with AI chatbots. About 20% of participants in the treatment group exhibited a reduced belief in conspiracy theories, an effect that lasted for at least two months.

These findings suggest that while chatbots could be a valuable tool in combating misinformation, they should be used cautiously as their effectiveness depends largely on the quality and bias of their underlying data.
