A teenager has been arrested following a cyberattack on London's public transport body last week, leading to the unauthorized access of some personal customer data, the National Crime Agency (NCA) revealed on Thursday.

Transport for London (TfL), which operates the capital's tube and bus networks, stated that it was reaching out to roughly 5,000 customers whose bank account details may have been compromised in the September 1 incident. Additional customer information including names and contact details was also accessed.

The NCA is conducting an investigation in collaboration with TfL and the National Cyber Security Centre. A 17-year-old male was arrested in Walsall and later released on bail. Shashi Verma, TfL's Chief Technology Officer, mentioned that measures are being taken to enhance security, such as an all-staff IT identity check, to prevent future breaches. While TfL does not foresee significant impact to customer journeys, some temporary disruption may occur.
