Zara will introduce its secondhand clothing service in the United States by the end of October, aiming to extend the life cycle of garments and decrease waste, Inditex announced on Wednesday. Already operational in 16 European nations, Zara's 'Pre-Owned' platform debuted in Britain in November 2022.

Inditex aims to have the platform active in all key markets by 2025, aligning with its strategy to minimize raw material consumption. The service is accessible via Zara stores, its website, and an app in countries including Spain, France, and Germany.

While Zara has not yet shared user statistics for the service, Inditex CEO Oscar Garcia Maceiras noted that its online platforms garner over 22 million daily visitors. Other fast fashion brands like H&M also offer resale options, with secondhand H&M items available in the U.S. through a dedicated website in partnership with ThredUp.

Zara is also poised to launch live shopping events in the U.S. and other key markets such as Spain, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Britain, Ireland, and The Netherlands. Weekly five-hour live shopping shows on Douyin, TikTok's Chinese counterpart, have significantly boosted Zara's sales in China since November, as reported by retail analytics firm EDITED.
