Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is set to make a significant entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market within this fiscal year, with an ambitious goal to ensure one-third of its sales come from EVs by 2030.

Speaking at the sidelines of the 64th SIAM annual session, Yogesh Mathur, HMSI Director (Sales and Marketing), highlighted the increasing penetration of electric two-wheelers in the market. Mathur anticipates a major shift towards EVs by 2030, with a substantial part of HMSI's lineup featuring EV models.

The development of these electric models is a collaborative effort between HMSI and Honda teams. Despite current full capacity operations at its plants, HMSI is exploring options for tweaks in daily production and potential establishment of new manufacturing facilities to meet projected future demands.

Looking ahead to the festive season, Mathur expressed optimism about achieving standout sales figures that could mark one of the best years for the two-wheeler industry. He also projected that the industry may return to the sales peak of 2018-19 within the next three to four years.
