Indians Dominate TIME's 2024 'Most Influential People in AI' List
Indians have a significant presence in TIME magazine’s 2024 list of the 100 'Most Influential People in AI'. The honourees include notable figures like Ashwini Vaishnaw, Nandan Nilekani, and Anil Kapoor. Together, they contribute to India's growing influence and ambition in the global AI and semiconductor landscape.

Union Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, and actor Anil Kapoor are among several Indians congratulated by TIME magazine for their influence in the field of artificial intelligence. They have been named in the prestigious 2024 list of the 100 'Most Influential People in AI'.
The list, unveiled on Thursday, features 15 individuals of Indian origin, including tech industry titans Sundar Pichai of Google and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. TIME commended 54-year-old Vaishnaw for his ambition to place India among the top five nations in semiconductor manufacturing, a critical sector for AI development, within five years.
However, the magazine noted the significant hurdles India faces, from low private R&D investment to a dearth of high-tech manufacturing ecosystems and the need for an advanced workforce specialized in AI.
