Google Photos is set to dramatically enhance its search functionality, aiming to simplify the process of locating specific images through natural, descriptive queries. An example of the new search capability would be typing 'Gigi Hadid playing with daughter' to swiftly find relevant photos, GSM Arena reports.
The upgraded search now supports sorting results by date or relevance, facilitating faster and more accurate image retrieval. This feature is currently available in English for both Android and iOS platforms, with plans to roll out additional languages in the near future, GSM Arena confirms.
Additionally, select US users are getting early access to a feature known as 'Ask Photos.' Available through Google Labs for users on the waitlist, this feature utilizes Gemini AI to understand the context of photo galleries more proficiently.
For example, users can inquire, 'When did we eat at the airport in Delhi?' and receive contextually relevant responses detailing the people, places, and activities in their photos. 'Ask Photos' operates similarly to a chatbot, presenting a conversational interface where queries can be refined if initial searches don't meet expectations.
This AI-powered feature can summarize trip highlights, recommend the best photos from certain events, and more, all thanks to Gemini's advanced models, according to GSM Arena. Google assures users that while human reviewers may evaluate 'Ask Photos' queries to improve the service, these reviews happen in a privacy-protected manner, with queries disconnected from users' Google Accounts.
Responses from 'Ask Photos' are usually not reviewed by humans unless there is feedback or potential abuse requiring attention. (ANI)
