Colombian President Gustavo Petro has urged the attorney general's office to launch a probe into the procurement of the controversial Pegasus spyware software for $11 million.
Petro expressed concerns that the spyware, created by Israeli firm NSO, might have been employed by the preceding government to spy on opposition politicians.
Over the last decade, Pegasus technology has repeatedly surfaced in allegations of unlawfully hacking into the phones of journalists, political dissidents, and members of civil society.
