The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) on Thursday announced an ambitious plan aiming to save the agency an estimated $30 billion over the next decade.
Key proposed changes include adjusting pick-up and drop-off times as well as expediting certain mail classes. The USPS will host a virtual conference next month to engage with stakeholders from the mailing and shipping community to discuss these changes.
These adjustments are scheduled for implementation after the November 5 general election and the 2024 peak season. "As we integrate our transportation, processing, and delivery network, we expect to improve service reliability, reduce costs, and grow our business," stated Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. Additionally, the initiative is set to decrease truck trips, thereby reducing the agency's carbon emissions.
