Susan Wojcicki, who was among the first employees at Google and the former CEO of YouTube, has passed away at the age of 56 after a prolonged struggle with cancer, Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai confirmed on social media platform X this Saturday.
"Unbelievably saddened by the loss of my dear friend Susan Wojcicki after two years of living with cancer. She is as core to the history of Google as anyone, and it's hard to imagine the world without her," Pichai stated in his post. Wojcicki, an influential figure in the tech industry, resigned from her role at YouTube in 2023 after nine years of leadership.
