Grameenphone Reinstates 3G and 4G Networks Across Bangladesh
Bangladesh's leading telecoms operator, Grameenphone, has restored 3G and 4G mobile internet services nationwide. The restoration follows an appeal to the government amid recent political turmoil. Voice and SMS services were maintained during the disruption. Grameenphone, majority-owned by Norway's Telenor, has around 85 million subscriptions.
Bangladesh's telecoms operator Grameenphone has reactivated its 3G and 4G networks, enabling citizens to reconnect with mobile internet services nationwide, according to Norway's Telenor, reported by Reuters on Monday.
Grameenphone urged the government to swiftly and fully restore mobile internet services amidst the recent political unrest, Telenor noted in an emailed statement. Throughout the turmoil, voice and SMS services remained operational even as mobile internet was disrupted, the company clarified.
'Access to the internet is vital for individuals and businesses across Bangladesh, depending on it for daily activities and essential services,' stated the Norwegian firm. Telenor owns a majority stake in Grameenphone.
The operator reported 85 million subscriptions as of June end, according to Telenor.
