India Faces Surge in Cyber Attacks as Malware and Ransomware Incidents Spike
A report by SonicWall indicates that malware and ransomware attacks in India surged in 2024. Malware incidents rose by 11% and ransomware by 22%. Additionally, IoT attacks increased by 59%. The report highlights significant risks to organization revenues, with the average business facing 1,104 hours of critical threats.
Malware attacks in India surged by 11 per cent in 2024, reaching a total of 13,44,566 incidents, according to a report by SonicWall. Ransomware attacks saw an even sharper rise, jumping by 22 per cent, underscoring an escalating cyber threat landscape for businesses.
The 2024 SonicWall Mid-Year Cyber Threat Report also revealed that Internet of Things (IoT) attacks in the country increased by a staggering 59 per cent, tallying up to 16,80,787 cases compared to 10,57,320 in 2023. Crypto attacks in India surged by an alarming 409 per cent during the same period.
SonicWall Vice President of APJ Sales, Debasish Mukherjee, emphasized that organizations today are navigating a dynamic threat landscape where cyber adversaries are constantly evolving their tactics to outmaneuver corporate defenses. A total of 78,923 new malware variants were detected in the first five months of 2024 alone, contributing to a global increase in malware volume by 30 per cent in the first half of the year.
