Berlin Stands Firm Against Russian Assassination Plot Allegations

Berlin is addressing reports of a plot to assassinate Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall, a key arms manufacturer for Ukraine, with the utmost seriousness, the German government stated on Friday. According to reports by CNN and The New York Times, U.S. intelligence uncovered the Russian plan aimed at eliminating Papperger, whose company has been instrumental in supporting Ukraine's war efforts.

The alleged plot is part of a broader Russian campaign to target defense industry executives across Europe aiding Ukraine, CNN reported. Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser emphasized the country's stance against Russia's intimidation tactics, ensuring thorough protection against such threats.

Rheinmetall, renowned for producing artillery and tank shells, has not confirmed the reports but affirmed that regular security measures are in place. As tensions rise, German defense firms like Hensoldt and Diehl are reevaluating their safety protocols. Previous incidents, including the assassination of an exiled Chechen-Georgian dissident, underscore the serious nature of these threats, said Justice Minister Marco Buschmann.
