Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Pvt Ltd, on Monday, announced the signing of a licensing agreement with GIB EnergyX Slovakia s.r.o. for the development of lithium-ion cells technology.

The agreement with GIB EnergyX, a subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech Co Ltd, ensures the licensing of Gotion's innovative 'LFP technology' for manufacturing world-class lithium-ion cells by Amara Raja. The technology will be utilized by Amara Raja's fully owned subsidiary, Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd (ARE&M).

This move will enable Amara Raja to produce LFP cells in both cylindrical and prismatic forms, according to the released statement. The licensing terms provide access to key intellectual properties, support for establishing advanced gigafactory facilities, integration with Gotion's global supply chain for essential battery materials, and technical customer support for solution deployment.

Jayadev Galla, Chairman & Managing Director of ARE&M, highlighted the potential of India's EV market and emphasized the strategic advantage brought by Gotion's globally-recognized technology combined with Amara Raja's extensive expertise in the energy and mobility sectors.

GIB EnergyX Chairman and Gotion HighTech Co Director, Steven Cai, remarked on the significant benefits this partnership would offer to Indian customers navigating the energy transition. He commended Amara Raja's values and its success in the Indian energy storage market.

Gotion has established a competitive edge with its product technology and gigafactory expertise, providing advanced solutions across the new energy value chain, Cai noted.

Moreover, Amara Raja and Gotion are notable shareholders and board members of InoBat, a pioneering lithium battery technology firm in Slovakia, working on advanced applications such as electric aviation and a sustainable 'Cradle to Cradle' battery ecosystem.

GIB, a joint venture between Gotion and InoBat, recently secured an investment agreement with the Slovak government to develop the first LFP battery gigafactory in the country.
