LG Electronics (LG) has opened its first EV charger production factory in the U.S. - a 5,500-square-meter facility in Fort Worth, Texas, that will focus on delivering chargers for the North American market.

The factory is LG's first EV charger production site outside of South Korea, where the company last year opened an EV charger manufacturing operation under its affiliated company HiEV Charger, and is expected to have an annual capacity of more than 10,000 units.

LG's strategic move to set up its electric vehicle (EV) charger production factory in Texas, USA, is motivated by several reasons, such as the opportunity to make use of existing facilities, the state's excellent logistics and transportation networks, and the presence of major operations for companies across diverse industries, including automobile manufacturing and finance.

LG expects its entry into the U.S. EV charging market will enable it to address rising local demand and discover new business opportunities.

LG has started assembling 11kW chargers at its Texas factory and will begin production of 175kW fast chargers within the first half of the year. LG also aims to introduce a 350kW ultra-fast charger in 2024, expanding its EV charger lineup to meet the varied needs of customers, especially those operating in areas such as commercial travel and long-distance transportation.

The South Korean tech giant has gained a reputation as a dependable provider of electric vehicle (EV) chargers, primarily due to its strong manufacturing capabilities, quality control measures, and excellent after-sales service. By highlighting its unique offerings, such as control and advertising solutions, LG is optimistic that its EV charging solutions business will strengthen its market position in the medium to long term.

LG plans to tap into the diverse demand for EV charging solutions across various businesses and facilities, including hotels, shopping malls, retail stores, gas stations, and parking garages, to boost its growth. The company's experience in the U.S. hotel TV and digital signage sectors is expected to provide valuable insights that will aid in the expansion of its EV charging solutions business in the U.S.
