As India witnesses the rollout of 5G, an upsurge in smartphone and IoT device adoption, and a burgeoning manufacturing sector, the demand for skilled professionals is arising in the telecom sector. To address the burgeoning skill requirements, Ericsson and the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) have teamed up to unveil a state-of-the-art Center of Excellence (CoE) at the Delhi Skill & Entrepreneurship University (DSEU).

"This initiative will help bridge the skills gap in the industry while providing opportunities for underserved students to build a career in the telecom sector in India. Industry-Academia partnerships will go a long way in fulfilling the skill gaps in the sector as well as creating a skilled workforce that will boost the telecom eco-system in the country and ensure the build-out of a strong digital infrastructure in the country," said Nitin Bansal, Head of Ericsson India and Head of Network Solutions for Southeast Asia, Oceania and India.

The Ericsson-TSSC CoE will provide training and skill development to students on 5G and emerging technologies, while also facilitating job placements upon successful completion of the training module which includes theory lessons and hands-on practical training in the Skill Labs set up in the CoE.

In its inaugural year, the initiative will train approximately 300 students. The curriculum encompasses diverse modules, including becoming a 5G network engineer, technical proficiency in handheld devices, IoT devices/systems, and the assembly of telecom products.

"TSSC is on a mission to enhance the baseline skills for telecom professionals and aspirants across India. With the invaluable support of Ericsson, we have been able to establish a first-of-its-kind Centre of Excellence for telecom in Delhi towards fulfilling this objective. The CoE is designed to maximize the learning potential of the local youth with a keen focus on inclusivity and technical skill development. We are standing at the beginnings of a new India and look forward to develop the potential of our great nation’s youth," said Arvind Bali, CEO, Telecom Sector Skill Council.

The Ericsson-TSSC CoE in Delhi is just one facet of Ericsson's multifaceted efforts to empower students in the digital era. As part of its Connect To Learn initiative, the company has been running 40 centers across India to provide ICT and soft skills training to underprivileged youth to boost their employability.

Furthermore, recognizing the importance of nurturing a passion for technology from an early age, Ericsson has established 15 Robotic Labs across the country.
