Bharti Airtel, a leading telecom operator in India, has launched Airtel Xstream AirFiber, a groundbreaking Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) offering powered by 5G Plus.
The service is currently being launched in Mumbai and Delhi, with a pan-India rollout to be conducted in a phased manner. Airtel customers can visit select Airtel stores in these two cities to opt for the Airtel Xstream AirFiber service.
With fiber-to-home connections reaching only 34 million households in India, a vast number of customers have been grappling with the challenge of limited fiber access. Airtel Xstream AirFiber emerges as the first 5G Wireless WiFi solution, poised to provide high-speed internet access to consumers residing in fiber dark regions.
Xstream AirFiber is a plug-and-play device with in-built Wi-Fi 6 technology that caters to indoor coverage and allows users to connect up to 64 devices simultaneously. The service will address the crucial "last mile" connectivity issue, both in urban and rural India, where traditional fiber infrastructure falls short, the company said in a press release on Monday.
Airtel is introducing this service at an exceptionally attractive price point, with its 799 plan offering up to 100Mbps blazing fast speeds. The plan is available for a convenient six-month duration, requiring a one-time refundable security deposit of Rs 2500.
Commenting on the launch, Shashwat Sharma, Director, Consumer Business Bharti Airtel, said, "India has seen the rapid growth of home broadband but there still remain areas with no access to hi-speed internet at home due to the physical challenges of laying fiber in a country the size of India. While fiber to the home will always define the best experience of Wi-Fi at home, AirFiber helps bridge the experience gap for everyone else. Today, we are delighted to launch Xstream AirFiber for consumers in Delhi and Mumbai with a pan-India rollout planned soon."
The service will also drive domestic manufacturing growth as Airtel plans to produce all Xstream AirFiber devices within the country, under the "Make in India" initiative.
