Leading Indian telco, Bharti Airtel, has announced the availability of its 5G service at water metro stations across Kochi, marking the first time customers can access blazing-fast 5G speeds while travelling on India's first water metro service.
The water metro service connects 10 islands around Kochi through battery-operated electric hybrid boats. Airtel's 5G service is available between the High Court-Vypin terminals and the Vyttila-Kakkanad terminals, providing enhanced connectivity and a superior digital experience to commuters.
Airtel's 5G service is already live in other parts of the island city of Kochi.
"We are delighted to be at the forefront of such a transformative project, delivering last-mile connectivity. It is yet another milestone in our ambition to deliver blazing-fast 5G speeds to as many of our customers as possible, including on waterways. We are thrilled that our customers can now enjoy the power of the 5G service while on the water metro ride and relish the scenic beauty of Kochi," said Amit Gupta, COO, Kerala, Bharti Airtel.
With this roll-out, Airtel's 5G service now covers over 3500 cities and towns across India. The company has successfully crossed the milestone of serving more than 10 million unique customers on its 5G network nationwide and is on track to extend its 5G coverage to every town and key rural area by September 2023.
Airtel has also introduced an unlimited 5G data offer to encourage its customers to experience the power of the Airtel 5G Plus network. This means that users can now enjoy ultrafast, reliable, and secure 5G Plus services without worrying about data exhaustion.
