You can now report inappropriate messages in Google Chat
Google has added the ability for admins to enable content reporting for their Google Chat users. This content reporting feature is accessible on both the web and mobile versions of Google Chat and can be enabled at the domain or OU level by admins.
Content reporting in Google Chat provides users with an opportunity to report messages that they deem inappropriate or concerning. This can include instances of offensive, discriminatory, or explicit content, as well as the sharing of sensitive data that should not be disclosed, whether personal or proprietary.
"This is critical for our customers, especially those of larger organizations and in regulated industries, to stay on top of potential abuse and inappropriate use of Chat in their organization," Google said.
Adminis can enable content reporting for various message types, including 1:1 conversations, group chats, and messages within spaces. They also have the flexibility to choose which reporting categories are available to users, such as harassment or rude behaviour, sensitive information, and more.
To report a message, follow these steps:
- Go to Google Chat or your Gmail Account.
- Click Chat or Spaces.
- Open a conversation or space.
- Hover over the message.
- From the available message actions, click More options > Report.
- Enter your feedback.
- Click Submit report.
- The report is sent to your admin to review.
Once a user flags a message, admins can use the Security Investigation Tool to gain additional details about the reported incident.
To further enhance the user experience, admins also have the option to customize the language within the reporting dialog box. This allows them to provide clear instructions and guidance to users on the steps that follow the submission of a report.
The content reporting feature is gradually rolling out to both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains and may take up to 15 days to be fully visible. It will be available to Google Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Standard, and Education Plus customers.
