Young Spinners Suthar and Dubey Poised for Test Debut Against Afghanistan
India's young spinners Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey could make their Test debut in an upcoming match against Afghanistan on June 6. Although both talents have shown promise, Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate suggests only one might debut, alongside seasoned players like Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar.
India is gearing up for a one-off Test match against Afghanistan starting on June 6 in Mullanpur, with young spinners Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey in contention for their Test debuts. Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate hinted that while both have strong potential, it's likely only one will debut in the upcoming game.
Speaking at a press conference, ten Doeschate stated, "The chance of both of them playing is probably pretty small. We haven't finalized the combination, but I'd imagine Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar will play, and then one of the two young spinners." Additionally, he pointed out that fresh faces are essential, especially with seven squad members fresh from an IPL final.
Harsh Dubey, a Sunrisers Hyderabad player in the IPL, has demonstrated his capabilities with eight wickets in eight matches. Manav Suthar, part of Gujarat Titans, has also shown promise. The team includes key players such as captain Shubman Gill, vice-captain KL Rahul, and wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, rounding out a strong squad ready to face Afghanistan in the coming days.
