In a harrowing incident in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district, an auto-rickshaw carrying eight girl students and their coach collided with a gas tanker, resulting in multiple injuries. The students, hailing primarily from Kannauj, were on their way to a divisional-level sports event when the accident happened late Tuesday night.
The collision took place near Jasovar turn under Kotwali Dehat police jurisdiction. Following the incident, police and senior officers promptly arrived at the scene and transported the victims to the district hospital. Eight of them were subsequently referred to a trauma center in Varanasi for advanced treatment, while one student continues to receive care locally.
The driver of the tanker, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, has been apprehended, as legal proceedings are underway. Preliminary reports suggest that the group was traveling in two auto-rickshaws when one was struck by the tanker, leaving some with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
