The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has promised to evaluate the suspension of Joydeep Karmakar by the West Bengal Rifle Association (WBRA), following his allegations of corruption in team selection for the 2025 National Games.
Karmakar, who is both an Olympian and a renowned rifle coach, was barred from state shooting activities after openly criticizing the selection process, claiming it was unfair and corruption-ridden. The WBRA stated that Karmakar had been issued a show cause notice for a controversial post on Facebook before the suspension.
Having narrowly missed a medal at the 2012 London Olympics, Karmakar is urging the NRAI to mediate in the matter. Meanwhile, Debkumar Samanta, Secretary General of WBRA, emphasized that appropriate legal procedures are being followed, while clarifying that the association awaits Karmakar's response to the show cause notice.
