In an unexpected turn of events, Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda will be racing for Red Bull at his home Grand Prix in Japan. Meanwhile, New Zealander Liam Lawson will return to the sister team, Racing Bulls, following a strategic seat swap.
Red Bull's decision comes after Lawson's challenging start with the RB21 in his first two races. So far, he has been unable to score points while racing alongside four-time world champion Max Verstappen. Christian Horner, Red Bull's team boss, announced the switch on Thursday, emphasizing that the move was necessary to capitalize on potential performance improvements.
Notably, Tsunoda has had strong backing from Honda, Red Bull's engine partner, throughout his career. Japan, and specifically the Suzuka circuit, will play host to Tsunoda's anticipated performance on April 6, as Honda owns the circuit set to host the prestigious racing event.
