In a surprising twist of fate, five young boxers from Assam received an unexpected opportunity to participate in the senior Women's National Championships. This came as a result of internal conflicts within the Boxing Federation of India, which led to the withdrawal of the 'A' team.
Unable to send their first-choice athletes due to infighting, state units like Assam, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal prevented key boxers from competing. This situation, however, opened the door for talented Assamese pugilists Priyakhi Swargiari, Puja Sonowal, Dharytri Subba, Sunita Rajbongshi, and Bishnupriya Saika.
Despite limited preparation and unexpected challenges, including weight management issues, these boxers were undeterred. They eagerly embraced the opportunity to compete and learn from experienced national and international fighters, receiving their chance thanks to the timely intervention of the Assam Olympic Association.
