The father of Norwegian middle-distance runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Gjert Ingebrigtsen, stands trial over allegations of domestic abuse against his son and daughter. Jakob, age 24, is a decorated athlete, recently winning gold medals at the World Indoor Championships held in China.
Gjert, who has coached Jakob, faces charges of a 14-year-long domestic abuse campaign. The defense argues that if abuse occurred, it would have surfaced in the 'Team Ingebrigtsen' documentary series. Gjert's attorney, Heidi Reisvang, emphasizes the distinction between Gjert's roles as a coach and father.
Gjert, a prominent media figure in Norway, denies all charges. The trial is expected to last until May 16, with the next testimony from Jakob, following his journey from China. Charges against Gjert pertain to breaches of sections 219 and 282 of the Norwegian Penal Code.
