Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni has shed light on the strategic decision to appoint Ruturaj Gaikwad as the new captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Speaking to Jio Hotstar, Dhoni emphasized Gaikwad's longstanding association with the team and his composed temperament as core reasons behind the appointment.

Dhoni elaborated on the decision-making process, stating, "When considering leadership roles, it's essential to focus on the long-term picture. Trusted batsmen often provide stability over time, unlike fast bowlers who might face injuries. Ruturaj has consistently performed well and shares a great rapport with coach Stephen Fleming." He added that Gaikwad had been informed of his future leadership role immediately after the previous IPL season.
