India's celebrated table tennis icon, Achanta Sharath Kamal, has disclosed that the WTT Star Contender in Chennai will be his final professional tournament. The 42-year-old legend, recognized for his numerous accolades, is set to conclude a sparkling journey at the venue where his international career commenced.
Kamal, who has collected 13 Commonwealth Games medals, announced his retirement decision earlier this month. Reflecting on his lengthy career, which began in 2002, he expressed his desire to shift roles within Indian table tennis, aiming to serve as an administrator, mentor, and coach.
Following an unfulfilling performance at the 2024 Summer Games, Kamal decided to retire from professional play. Notably, he was India's male flag bearer at the Paris 2024 Olympics and has participated in the Olympics five times, more than any other Indian table tennis player.
